Doc MB’s Top 7 Tips for Staying Healthy While Traveling

Nothing ruins a trip faster than getting sick. In this episode of Healthy Humor, Doc MB steps through her top 7 tips for staying healthy while traveling. Remember, every trip should feel SPECIAL!

  1. SANITIZE your hands more frequently than you would normally. If you know you won’t have reliable access to restrooms, then pocket sanitizers are a great option! Remember, public restrooms are less common outside the United States.

  2. Pack your PHARMACY. This could include first aid, personal hygiene items, and medications. This is not a disaster kit. You do not need to pack plastic gloves or thermometers. But, a few immodium because you brushed your teeth with water from the tap or a band-aid for the blister you got because you just had to buy a brand new pair of shoes for vacation will come in handy.

  3. EAT FAMILIAR. If you’re a chicken strips and fries person at home then you should not be a spicy lengua street taco person on vacation. However, if you are normally an adventerous eater then use your best judgement on vacation and ask a local for advice.

  4. Don’t forget your COVER-UP! What’s more exciting to bring back from a vacation, fun memories or a sunburn? No matter the level of SPF, the amount of outdoor time planned, or even your natural ability to tan, some way to protect yourself from the sun or other elements is essential for safe travel. So pack a sun shirt, your favorite SPF, or a collapsable umbrella before your next trip.

  5. Take an INTERMISSION before you end up needing a vacation to recover from your vacation. Try to get the same or more sleep than you do at home. If you can squeeze a nap in then do it! Sleep will help your body stay healthy and your battery charged even after you get home!

  6. Stay ACTIVE. Don’t be afraid to be the person doing lunges and neck rolls in the terminal. Traveling (especially for long distances) could lead to avoidable injuries. Protect yourself by streching and moving frequently.

  7. Lap up the LIQUIDS. Whether you are sitting in the dry air of a plane cabin or trying not to waste time on bathroom breaks travel will dehydrate you. If you normally have an emotional support water bottle attached to your hand then bring it with you, or consider bringing a bottle with a filter if you don’t know the potability of the local water.
